Exhibition Statement:
Trip to Nirvana is a conceptual journey through the stages of spiritual awakening, presented in five distinct series. Each sequence tells a story, blending art, fashion, and technology to create an immersive experience. The exhibition delves deep into the human psyche, exploring themes of birth, transformation, and transcendence.
Sequence 1: Birth
The editorial opens with an intimate glimpse inside a shattered, otherworldly egg nestled on an ethereal ocean shore. Within, an alien creature lies in a trance, bathed in vibrant red-steaming lights. Her luminous, slick skin shimmers as the light accentuates every contour, creating an otherworldly, divine aesthetic. The scene then shifts to the moment of emergence: the alien girl with sleek silver hair gracefully crawls out of the egg. She is draped in flowing oriental garments that move like liquid silk, blending raw, primal birth with futuristic elegance. This editorial captures the powerful fusion of the alien and the sublime, where creation meets high fashion in a striking narrative.
Sequence 2: Discovery
The baby angel girl, radiating pure love, explores a world of wonders. She kisses vibrant butterflies and flirts with graceful swans gliding across crystal-clear waters, her delicate white wings expanding with each loving interaction. Her heart chakra pulses with light as she forms deep connections with the wild animals around her. The air hums with peace and unity as she moves with carefree joy, blissfully unaware of the darker truths that await her. This editorial will feature a blend of beauty close-ups and outdoor scenes, showcasing the model posing among vibrant flowers in a botanical garden, interacting with swans and butterflies adding to the ethereal atmosphere.
Sequence 3: Fall
The angel girl, driven by curiosity, peers into the depths of a human heart. The raw intensity and complexity of human desire overwhelm her, igniting a spark within her wings. Desperate for comfort, she locks eyes with someone she loves and believes to trust. Her world shatters, and her wings, once pure, burst into flames, fuelled by heartbreak. As she is pulled into the sky, the flames consume her, and she begins to fall, her wings turning to ashes, embodying the tragic collapse of everything she believed in. This editorial captures the powerful image of the girl with wings engulfed in flames, plummeting from the sky. Blood intertwines with heavy smoke, wrapping around her like a tragic yet striking garment. Her eyes, filled with anger, confusion, and despair, tell a haunting story of loss and betrayal. The visual creates a stunning contrast, blending the beauty of high fashion with the raw emotion of her fall, creating a both mesmerising and heartbreaking moment.
Sequence 4: Cocoon
In the aftermath of her scorched wings, the teenage girl retreats into silence. Gradually, she envelops herself in a cocoon—a physical manifestation of her inner turmoil and evolving perspective. As she turns inward, the protective shell thickens, creating a gossamer-like network around her motionless form. Within this delicate sanctuary of stillness, she seeks solace and clarity, her metamorphosis a poignant reflection of pain and self-discovery
Sequence 5: Oness
In the depths of her introspection, the girl finally discovers peace, embracing the fusion with her darker self. She comes to a profound realisation: the darkness she once feared and projected onto others is, in fact, an intrinsic part of her own being. As she accepts this shadowy aspect of herself, a remarkable transformation occurs. The girl's superpower resurges, now amplified by the newfound harmony between her light and dark sides.Fully unified, she emerges from her cocoon, empowered by the integration of her complete self—a testament to the strength found in wholeness and self-acceptance. In this state of perfect balance, she transcends her physical form, becoming like water—fluid, adaptable, and boundless. Her essence merges with the world around her, dissolving the barriers between self and environment. She is the world, and the world is her, a formless entity of infinite potential, flowing through and shaping reality with her newfound, harmonious power

Julianna Yao is a stylist and creative director who has been internationally recognised, particularly in the youth and urban subculture. Her recent work at NYC Fashion Week went viral, celebrated by Paper Magazine for her co-creative direction with Techno Boy. Julianna works with the best emerging talent across fashion, beauty and music.
