“Women and Mothers, are still considered inferior, insignificant, of less value to ‘the system’ - even though we remain L’Origins du Monde.”

INFORMATION

Nature Morte  is a collection of thoughts materialised and accumulated over time, within a domestic setting, created by a new Mother who was time poor, financially & geographically limited, sleep deprived and isolated. Themes of the body, domesticity, sexuality, nature, consumerism and the subconscious are explored.  This body of work concludes with a new film, Stormy Seas with Pink.  The flicker of Pink, symbol of Woman, tossed over and over, day in and day out, without reprieve.

BIO

Monica Renaud was born in Sydney in 1974 and raised in the inner south western suburb of Earlwood.  She now lives & works from her Cronulla home studio on Sydney’s southern beaches, with her husband and two school -aged sons.

Monica Renaud ‘s diverse and evolving practice currently includes photography, film, assemblage, installation, and text based works.

A practiced storyteller, Renaud shares with us her own life encounters, in an attempt to engage the viewer with her guileless exploration of the everyday.

By revealing intimate experiences from her childhood to the present, it is quickly evident that her own personal narrative is often an all encompassing, universally shared and very human one.

Her work brings together a broad range of social, political and environmental references in attempt to subvert the mainstream expectations of women and especially Mothers, in this 21st Century, which she feels, greatly impacts on humanity and the globe.
